According to reliable reports, Toyota plans to reveal the next-generation Etios sometime in 2016. The Etios first arrived in 2010, available in hatchback and sedan versions. The model was initially offered on the Indian market and then launched in South Africa and Brazil in 2012, as well as in Indonesia a year later. However, the market didn’t respond to the Etios with much enthusiasm, mostly due to its boxy and uninspiring exterior styling. The Japanese automaker now intends to correct this mistake by introducing a more appealing design combined with improved capabilities and new technology. Expect the 2017 Toyota Etios to mark the second generation of the Etios, making its debut at one of this year’s major motor shows.
2017 Toyota Etios New Generation
Although official details concerning the 2017 Toyota Etios are still scarce, several reliable sources have already revealed what we might expect from the all-new model. When it comes to exterior styling, the next-generation Etios is expected to bring dramatic changes. Some sources claim that its new design will be influenced by the new Corolla Altis. According to Hisayuki Inoue, CEO Asia-Pacific operations, “design is one issue and you will see that the new version will have a much better design”. Unlike the first iteration, the second-generation Etios is expected to adopt a much more contemporary sheet metal, becoming more appealing to younger buyers. Now, the interior is also due to undergo a major overhaul that should bring a host of improved materials as well as completely redesigned dashboard and center console. In any case, we’ll be watching closely for any new details on the upcoming Etios’s interior design.
2017 Toyota Etios Engine Range
As far as the engine range is concerned, the 2017 Toyota Etios is most likely to carry over unchanged. The outgoing version is offered with a choice of one petrol- and one diesel-powered engine. The 1.5-liter petrol four-cylinder generates 89 horsepower (66 kW) and 97 lb-ft (132 Nm) of torque. Its power is transmitted to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. As for the more frugal diesel option, it comes as a 1.4-liter inline-4 that makes 67 hp (50 kW) and 125 lb-ft (170 Nm), paired with the same five-speed manual transmission.
2017 Toyota Etios Release Date
The 2017 Toyota Etios is most likely to go on sale in late 2016 or early 2017. Apart from the sedan and hatchback variants, rumor has it that the all-new Etios will spawn a crossover version in the near future.
